Families of artists in the town of Nathadwara, Rajasthan, India, pass sketchbooks onto the next generation of painters. Artists’ notes fill the books with drawings on both sides of one sheet of paper and overlap with ideas. Both sons and daughters also work in the family workshop to learn painting skills from family members. The finished paintings depict scenes from the life of Krishna. Contemporary.

Pencil, gouache, and ink.
