Early sketchbooks done as an art student in Quebec of an established and highly regarded painter show another side of the artist. Observations by Lemieux on location and his use of various media; how he simplifies line and shapes, plans for paintings, and his color choices for everyday scenes, i.e. at the beach, countryside, city streets, and family gatherings, etc. The sketches could be a history, and record, of a time, place, and family.

Lemieux was best known for large paintings of, staggering lone, figures in their environment

Conté crayon, watercolour, graphite, colored pencil, and/or black ink, felt pen on wove paper.

Artist: Jean Paul Lemieux.
