Album of Figure Studies (T10891-T10944; T11729). |
This is the album of figure studies from the theatrical productions the artist, Lady Wharncliffe, attends from 1807-09. Characters, gestures, action, and costumes are sketched sometimes in color. Sketching is one of Lady Wharncliffe's past-times, which includes singing, playing the guitar, spinning (wool), and feeding her bantams (birds). All of which are appropriate for a woman in her time and from a well connected, wealthy, English family. Pencil, and ink, on paper. Artist:Lady Wharncliffe. Click on the image and it will take you to the online archive of the complete sketchbook. |
