Traumatic personal and social events, and of survival, appear in the painted sketches overlayed with text by Salomon, made during the rise of Nazism in Europe, e.g. family, home, loss, love, riots on the streets, travel and hiding. All of the sketches are done in the last two years of Salomon's life. She entitles the close to 800 pages, "Life? or Theatre?" 1930s-40s.
